DON'T FALL FOR SCAMS! Read more about one recent local story here.
If you are considering having asphalt or concrete work done at your home, business or church, look at some of the scams that unfortunately are happening in our area.
Scam: If someone comes to your door and says he has left over asphalt and wants to do your job at a discount rate.
Fact: Asphalt is kept at a temperature of 130 degrees on a paving machine that keeps it hot from the asphalt plant, once asphalt starts to cool, it is no longer usable. It has to be dumped and recycled.
Scam: If some says that they have been rained out from their job on I-85 and are doing driveways today.
Fact: One who is geared up to do highway work would not be going door to door soliciting your residential work.
Scam: Boast that they own their own asphalt plant and sell everyone else their asphalt, so they are cheaper than others
Fact: Companies that own their own asphalt plant do not advertise this way and typically do a lot of highway work
Regardless of who does your work, be aware of the following:
Make sure whoever does your work has a permanent address and the number they give you is not a cellular phone that can be easily changed after your job is completed.
The base of your drive is very important; existing stone is not suitable. New Drives need to be graded out with a base of crusher-run stone and this stone should be compacted before asphalt is applied.
